Almost 2 years ago, Kickboxingplanet carried out a survey in which they wanted to see, what (according to the fans) were the best 10 kickboxers of the past 15 to 20 years. We started of making a huge list of maybe 40 kickboxers.

Step 2 was trying to choose the 10 biggest stars of our sport… Eventually we realized it wasn’t possible to bring the list back to 10, because then we would just miss out on to many good kickboxers. End result: A list of 20 world class kickboxers.

3 things were essential in selecting these kickboxers:

  • You have/had to be fighting under K-1 rules;
  • Active in the past 15 to 20 years;
  • and at least won 1 big title in K-1, It’s Showtime or GLORY, accept for Ramon Dekkers and Rob Kaman.

Why? Because when Ramon and Rob were in their prime, K-1, It’s Showtime or GLORY were no existing promotions yet.

After 5.000 votes, our fans formed a top 20 kickboxers. Which you could just cut in half, and there you have it, a top 10! But that would be to simple. We decided to make a panel of kickboxing enthusiasts selected out of team Kickboxingplanet, who are literally on the news, on a daily basis. Besides their knowledge, it’s also a great mix of young and old people who’re living in different countries all over the globe. Which makes their voting legit. Eventually those 6 writers, send in their top 10’s out of the 20 kickboxers we selected earlier.

What do we have now:

  • A top 10 made by the fans. (+/- 5000 votes);
  • 6 top 10’s made by the writers of team Kickboxingplanet;
  • 1 top 10 made by Kickboxingplanet’s owner (Roy).

Which will give you a total of 8 Top 10’s.

The point scoring system will work like this: For example, a kickboxer is standing #1 on one of the Top 10’s. He will receive 10 points, the #2 will get 9 points, the #3 will get 8 points, and so on. Eventually we’ll count all the points for every kickboxer, from every Top 10. Result: a final Top 10 based on the opinion of the fans, team Kickboxingplanet and it’s owner, which will give everybody an influence of 12,5% on the official outcome of this World Top 10 Kickboxers.

All statistics gathered for making this World Top 10 kickboxers, are visible at the bottom of the page. Enjoy!
